As in many other countries, the pandemic has significantly impacted the civil aviation industry in India. Fast forward to almost one year later and the traffic is returning slowly and steadily, with the Government of India allowing domestic airlines to operate at 80% of pre-COVID capacity by March 2020. Domestic traffic in India is expected to return to the levels of summer 2019. Nonetheless the upward trajectory of this recovery is an excellent sign for Indian aviation in the coming months. Investments in the aviation industry have continued despite the pandemic. A few honourable mentions include:
- Zurich Airport Holdings won the bid to operate the airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh;
- Airport Authority of India (AAI) successful completed the handover of Ahmedabad, Mangalore and Lucknow airports to Adani Group. Along with this, 3 more airports – Jaipur, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, will be handed over in due course of time;
- With the takeover of a majority stake in GVK Mumbai airports, Adani airport group becomes the biggest private operator followed by GMR Group, and
- Greenfield airports are being developed in Mopa, Goa and Bhogapuram, Visakhapatnam. Both these airports will be operated by GMR Group.
To follow these wonderful pieces of news, we are happy to announce that Radesh Nagaraj, Managing Director of To70 India, is returning back to India to continue taking India’s upward aviation growth further along after 2 productive years seconded to the office in the Netherlands, where he worked on numerous airport optimisation, aviation safety, noise management and Fast Time Simulation (FTS) related projects.
The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us how important it is to be resilient and to future proof airport operations. In order to ensure a smooth transition, it is vital to prepare the airport to handle pre-COVID levels of traffic and beyond so as to avoid delays and bottlenecks. With this future context in mind, Radesh with his vast experience in airport operations has created FTS models for the three biggest airports in India: Delhi International Airport, Bengaluru International Airport and Mumbai International Airport. Having this knowledge in-house will significantly assist our clients in achieving their targets. We at To70 India are excited to see what’s in store for the aviation industry as a whole.
